Default Headers

I want to put headers and a y on my car, and when i was getting my bro's exhaust done on his truck I ask the guy if he would weld it and how much. He asked me what year my car was and i told him and he said he wouldnt recomend it cause the car was a 2000 I asked him why and he said you have to worry about blowing gaskets and all of that . what in the world was he talking about , cause my mom was there and she now is like well that guy said not to. What is going on ?

I wouldn't listen to anything that guy says. Headers and y should be completely bolt on in most situations unless you're going custom. Custom work might need welding, but the whole blowing a gasket thing does not make any sense to me.

I really don't think he knows what he is talking about. What would be the difference in a 2000 rather than another year car anyways? You won't have to worry about anything as long as you know what you are doing or you have someone installing it that knows what they are doing. The headers and y come with what needs to be welded already welded and the rest is just bolt ons and whatnot.

Make sure you use a pair of factory OEM metal gaskets, and you'll be good to go.

most aftermarket ypipes are gasketless, i think hes talking about the collector gaskets on most cars. the ypipe slip fits to the headers and rest of car you just need him to weld the ypipe, imo i wouldnt weld the collectors to ypipe, it shouldnt leak and then you can resell the headers if needed.
