About a cam... If I chose to install a cam, how smart would it be to go ahead and put in new valve springs, push rods, and retainers (not really sure what my friend was talkin about here so what are they? lol) ... Seems if I am gonna go ahead and do a cam after cat-back, headers, ssra, lid that with the headers on that cam is gonna have a pretty big hp increase?

I'd highly recommend you use our search feature and read a TON about this subject. Its better to learn to make your own decisions when it comes to selecting a cam, than to have someone tell you what you need.
For a cam swap, you should always replace the valvesprings. Some valvesprings require aftermarket retainers, some work with the factory retainers. Pushrods are inexpensive so replace those as well (factory ones are weak and bend easily).

valvesprings - close the intake/exhaust valves on the heads
retainers - hold the valvesprings so they dont fly off into space
push rods - connect the lifters (which slide/roll on the cam) to the rocker arms which depress the valvesprings which open the valves which flow gas/air well enough to blow the doors off of most cars on the road
