Default Question on LS6 Intake

Right now my only mods are a lid and SSRA. Assuming I do at least a cam down the road, probably something around the size of a G5-X3 is the LS6 intake going to be enough to let it breathe. I know the LSX you can get even bigger in size, but would that be overkill? This is pretty much the tentative plan for the car.
This year, subframes, long tubes and ORY, and now maybe Intake.
Year after that, cam around the size of the G5-X3 and a tune.
And maybe the year after that go with some heads and a new rear.
The cam at least I'm pretty sure but past that it's up in the air. So is the LS6 Intake plenty to allow the cam to breathe? Thanks.

LS6 should be good, maybe a smooth bellows and a ported TB, the MAF should be big enought not to worry about

The LS6 will be fine, but since you've got such big plans (G5X3), why not get a TPIS/FAST 90/90 combo? That cam is seriously larger and needs to breathe, plus there's a G5X4 out now, so by the time you're ready to get a cam, you'll probably buy that one instead of the X3. I'd get a FAST intake with a TPIS 90mm TB if I were you.

Good luck with your project man and with whatever you choose.

with a stock cube motor though you dont gain anything over the ls6, maybe a few horse, but not enough to warrant the extra 1000 bucks. With stock heads to impeding the air flow, i just wouldnt justify buying the lsx combo, overkill for what he's going to have.

i agree with ^ ...no need to pay 1000 for maybe a 5hp gain....not worth it imo..just get the ls6 and be happy...it sounds like you are on a budget anyhow...

I am somewhat trying to work on a budget. It's more that I need to convince myself to spend the money, and that it's worth it for the power gain. It's the choice between a $1000 Fast intake that would net me maybe 5hp more than an LS6 which I could pick up for around $300. That $700 could be much better spent on headers.

Two of my friends are running that cam and I have the G5X3 on the way to me as well. I'm going with the LS6 intake for the reasons stated above. Sure, the LSX intake might make some more power, but certainly not enough to justify the extra $1000 it will cost. Just make sure you do get a ported throttle body (Shaner S3 is what I'm using) as that will allow the car to take advantage of the most air.

i cant justify spending $1k extra for "a little bit" (3-5 ponies) You gain/lose that much horsepower by the change in air temperature.

stick with the ls6, you can always sell it in the future if you decide to go to a FAST setup, they go like hot-cakes.

might want to also bump that new rear end up a little on your to-do list dont want to have your car on jackstands for weeks like me

Stay with the LS6 intake. You'll be fine with that.

(all of them) Whenever you get a consensus like that on LS1tech.com, it's a pretty solid choice.

As a side not to all you LSX savy guys out there, did they ever bring their QA process up to standards? I've been off site for a few months, but when I left, it seemed like the few people who had them didn't like them.

Yeah, I'm going with teh LS6 when I get around to it. If I ever decide I want to get traction at the track I'll buy a new rear first, for now I just want some more fun driving wise so I'm holding off on that.

Smooth bellows is worth at least 30hp. With a K&N that's 70rwhp!
