Default 2 questions!

1. Does your car make a hissing noise after you cut it off? It started doing this after i ported and polished my throttle body? Wondering if this is normal.

2. After you fut your engine off does it vibrate a little bit? I mean right after you turn the key off i get a little bit of vibration from the engine. Is this normal too?

Thanks
Brendon

i think the hissing is your a/c compressor bearings slowing down. no vibration for me.

Your engine pulls vacuum at idle and the hissing is probably just the the intake equalizing, I hear it on mine when I pull into the garage and it's quiet. I would however recommend checking for leaks if you just took the TB off and reinstalled.

Hard to tell from your description of the vibration if you are experiencing "run-on" or not. Try using a higher octane gas for a tank or two and see if it eliminates or reduces the issue.

I use 93 octane. thats as high as i can get here in texas. if feels just like when you stall out at a stop or something...it kinda vibrates tthe whole car and then turns off. Only it does it when i shut off the ignition. Its not really bad, but i just wanted to make sure i dont have any problems. I has done it since i bought the car. Right when i shut if off it kinda vibrates and turns off.

If your car is "dieseling", then its not normal. "Deiseling" is when you shut off the ignition and the engine runs/chugs/vibrates for a few seconds before actually shutting off. When you shut off the ignition, the engine should just shut off. Can you get a sound/video clip and post it?

VIP1.......That is exactly what it does. Exactly what you just described! What could be causing this to happen? I did it even before i moded the car. I got it with 10000 miles i think and it has done it ever since i got it. What can i do and is this bad or dangerous?? I am still under my extended warranty can i get this fixed??

my 87 does that, ive had it keep going for a good 20 seconds

about the hissing, mine does that to and it got more noticable after the lid install, its just the vaccum your engine sucks in, its releasing it

My father's old 83 Chevy van did it at times too.

I dont remember how to get rid of it though.

I did a quick search on Google and found this:
http://www.misterfixit.com/diesling.htm
http://autorepair.about.com/library/faqs/bl494b.htm
http://doityourself.com/auto/tunedieseling.htm
http://www.sportcompactracing.com/au...rm/250,1,xhtml
http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/engine/ro101.htm

Most of those are for older engines, the last one is pretty detailed.

From what I read in those is that you should try some GM Top-End Cleaner (or the appropirate cleaner -- to remove carbon deposits which contribute to the issue), use good gas of the proper octane (91+ in our case) and gas made for the current season. If the problem persists, there may be an issue with the throttle body not closing all the way, the injectors may be leaking fuel into the engine, the engine may be running really rich (the left over fuel is still igniting), the timing may be too far advanced, or others.

my old '85 regal w/ 400sbc had this problem for a while to it was due to running to much timing on the street, if i would retard it back down alittle it would stop it.
i didnt mention this before cus i believe there to a differant cause with his car,

Texasheat, i would take it in for a check just to be sure if the warranty is still good.

How hard do you run your car? Generally, granny drivin cars will build up carbon the pistons. Or if you run bad gas, it can cause more build-up. That carbon will then become hot as the engine runs, hot enough so that when you shut off the engine, any fuel in the cylinder will ignite. Causing the deiseling. It wont keep going because it is Fuel injected, and the engine shoots fuel at the back of the intake valve and only puts in what it needs. So there isnt much left over fuel in the intake when you shut down. Compared to a Carbureuter, where it just DUMPS fuel into the ENTIRE intake. Thats why a carb. car will deisel longer than a Fuel injected car. Get some top engine cleaner, do a top end service, drive the **** out the car. ie. WOT runs, drive in 2nd for a block or too. Try to break up all that carbon. And it should go away, assuming thats the problem, which I cant think of anything else.

WOW first off i really appreciate the input you guys are giving me. It could be a number of those things. Like my sig. says i have long tubes and offroad y with a open cutout and no tune so im POSITIVE im running rich! I just recently put in some 0W40 M1 synthetic so i have to wait for about 6,000 before my next oil change. It is necessary to change the oil after trying sea foam or top end cleaner correct???

I would say that i am a spirited driver. I will go WOT at least once or twice a day, other than that i keep it below 3K rpm. I use chevron premium 93 octane. I was running shell v-power, but i was getting bad gas mileage. Like I said before the car was doing this when i first got it. So it has been a while. I have 46,000 miles now so i think it may be time for some top end cleaner anyway.

Top-End Cleaner and get it tuned.
That should fix the problem.

i have been messing around with my ride all day today and have come to the conclusion that it doesnt "diesel" when i leave the clutch pressed in when i turn off the ignition. The first time dont press the clutch in then it "diesels". I put some sea foam in my gas today and i will put some in the engine before my next oil change. I really hope that and a good tune will solve my problems!!!!! thanks guys
