Looking at your sig, and having some considerable experience with the LT1 motor, even if you can't afford or don't want to have the heads worked on, a good set of 1.8 rollers would help your car out considerably, for instance, I bet you float the valves around top end @ 5500 rpms, the rollers would bring that up to about 6700-7000 rpms.

My valvetrain consists of 10* locks, Ti retainers, comp 987 springs, comp pro mag 1.6 rollers, hardened push rods, comp r lifters, etc. I think it is working pretty good together. After I break the N/A, stock heads, stock block, stock rear LT1 record(11.86 I blieve) this spring, the car will be getting the LE3 H/C package, 9" rearend, 4.10 gears, 3600 stall TC, and a shot. Will be hopefully spraying to the tune of 10 seconds.

Edit: Oh, and about the biggest ratio you want to go with rockers in the LT1 on unmodified heads is 1.7. I was thinking of getting some for the intake since my cam already has enough lift on the exhaust side(.576). This would be to tide me over till I get the new heads/cam.

I own an LT1 and i work on and drive LS1s alot. I personal think they are total different cars. The LS1 has the edge, but the more and more you mod, the proformance is closer.

Oh, this thread has supprised me alot. I think this is the frist thread i've read that every LS1 owner didn't trash the LT1. So, thanks for some repect this time!

I like both the LT1's and LS1's! Now the 4.6 Fords are another story!

I have been out looking at LT1 cars and almost bought a few. Torque is fun.

I've owned both an Lt1 and a LS1 Z28. The LT1 was rated at 275HP for 93-95 and 285HP fir 96-97 models. The 98-00 LS1 was rated at 305HP with the 01-02 cars at 310. This is for Z28's, NOT SS models. So, a stock LS! can have up to a 35HP gain over an LT1 out of the box. Added to this is the widely known fact that the LS1 HP ratings seem to be a bit "understated". This is not true of the LT1 ratings.

In a head to head match, a lightly modded LT1 will usually pull on a similiar LS1 for the first 1/8 mile. This is due to the LT1's max torque peaking about 1400RPM earlier than an LS1. After that the LS1 comes back with a vengence. When I owned my 97 Z28 I lost to many an LS1 in the last couple hundred feet of the 1/4 mile, usually pulling a 13.9 to their 13.6 or so.

I personally prefer the LS1. It's easier to work on (ever changed headers in an LT1 !!) and seems a bit smoother and more refined. The LT1 does have an advantage in ease of engine rebuild and the exhaust note is more pronounced/ deeper. Anyhow, that's my $0.02.

All of that makes sense except the very first part. How the heck did you walk a M6 with 370rwhp with an A4 making 351rwhp from a roll? Did he miss a shift or something?

I have noticed alot of what you guys are saying too.

My friend has a 97 Z28, I drove this car for an entire summer and its the car that got me addicted to F-Body power. After I got my LS1, I didnt drive his for a while but felt the LS1 was leaps and bounds ahead of the LT1. The other weekend, while my car was outta commission, I drove his LT1 and was extremely impressed by how hard the car pulled at low speeds, just felt harder and meaner.

Ironically, my friend then drove my LS1 and was talking about the car seemed a bit sluggish in the low end but was amazed by what the car could do once it got moving.

I have a good torque converter, and he is not the quickest shifter, though he did not miss a shift.
