Default 98 LS1 question

Soon I will be looking for SS camaros, I have seen a few 98's for a pretty good price. Did the 98's have any problems for being the first year in an f-body, were the significantly slower? Or should I only look at 99-up. Also do you think I should look for a car w/ no more than so many miles ex: 30k (any year)
Thanks in advance

In bone stock form the 98s might be a tick slower, but not enough to make you decide against them. Their lower price means more $$$ for mods!

Also, if anything the 98s are more reliable than newer ones. I see less complaints about oil burning and piston slap for the 98s than for the newest ones.

I bought my 98 with 34k miles. It now has 60k miles. I haven't had any problems with it all except for a window switch going out and a belt breaking. Those are all normal things that just happen. I ran a 12.89 @ 108 with a loud mouth exhaust system,an MTI lid, and some free mods. These cars are badass and the engine seems to only get better with more miles. I say go for a 98.

Later,

I think besides the 01-02s...98s are the best year for the LS1.

Sweet Thanks for the info guys, I was hoping to hear stuff like that. More money for mods, although I'd like to pay it off first(when i get one)

I bought my 98 in June 2000 with 3900 miles for 21k. Totally loaded with GM and SLP options. I have no piston slap, oil burning etc. No probs at all. Good luck man.

I also bought my 98 in June of 2000 for 15.5K, had 29K miles on it. Never had a problem when it was stock, which wasn't too long.

As long as it has good oil pressure then 98's are fine.

I have seen some 98's have problems with oil pumps that are on the low side, and that can lead to premature bearing wear.
