I didn't get a shift kit and probably never will. I had a sponsor install my converter (New Era Performance) and for only $45 they tuned my car for the converter (not a dyno tune). They raised line preasure a little, deleted TM and I think raised the rev limiter. It runs and shifts just fine so that was $45 well spent IMO.

Just something to keep in mind if you are relatively close to a shop that has ls1edit or HP tuner. It's a less expensive alternative to a shift kit.

And I also voted converter first

If your car is well maintained don't worry about the converter hurting it.
But do put in a tran's cooler.
You have a 2 series carrier.

My '99 TA was previously owned by a 63 y.o. attorney, was always garaged/serviced/maintained properly and only driven on Sundays. They called it their 'Sunday touring car' ... go figure. When my tranny went, it had less than 44,000 miles. I've seen them last a long time, though. My TC was only in for about 18 months when my tranny went. That was 3 months ago.

Trouble is, with full exhaust, you won't realize the power gains nearly as much until it's tuned 'cause it will run rich as hell.
I bet things like a descreened Maf, Maf Ends, etc would lean him out a bit. Prolly not enough though.

I went from JBA shorties, Random Tech catted Y, LS1 intake, and stock throttle body >

to >

Ported MAC's, MAC ORY, LS6 intake, and Jantzer ported throttle body.

All at the same time.

When NLP tuned my car, I was astonished to learn I had lost nearly 20 RWHP because these changes above made it run so rich. Once tuned, it was 45 RWHP stronger between the 20 RWHP loss and what I ended up with. If you do the math, all the chnages only netted me 25 RWHP.

Converter, shift kit, cooler. Drag radials and subframe connectors are a nice addition.

Converter, shift kit, cooler, & tranny tuning. Your choice of stall speed depends on what you plan to do with your car. I really like my 3000 for daily driving with 4 or so trips to the track each year. Both the shift kit and tranny tuning do what the other cannot do for the trans. Gears represent another whole new expense, but after you have your converter, you may want them to tighten things up. I'm really happy with my 3000/3.42 combo for daily driving.
