Default OK to overpay??

So I found a 98 Trans Am, completely stock, with 80k on it. I talked the guy into letting it go for a few hundred less than he wants, but it's still about $500 over Blue Book(says he bought brand new tires). The thing is, most LS1's around here go for at least $10k, even 98's.

Five-hundred dollars might not seem like a lot to some, but it's huge on a college man's budget. Should I wait for a better deal or bite the local area "tax" on F-Bodies? Going to look at it next weekend anyway.

I got my z28 stock with new (shitty tires) 1000 under blue book.

Yeah, I would not pay extra. Keep looking. Dont try and talk him down. Just tell him you'll give him blue book, and if he doesnt want to sell it for that price tell him you cant buy it. I bet you after a week or so he calls you back if he cant sell it.

I'd pay it, 500 bucks is a small price to pay for having your ls1 ( if it is exactly what you want, not just close to what you want )

Wow, I didn't know it was like that! So $8500 is too much for any 98 F-Body pretty much?

if its in good shape i wouldnt pass it up. yea you can find some cheaper but atleast that one is their and if you have driven it know its its in good shape or not. these things are getting harder and harder to find everyday. 500 dollars isnt a big deal when you trying to get the car you want

I got my car 2 years ago with 79k on it for 8000....and It was considered a steal by most people back then.

8500 would be high for my car right now....it is a base z28 with no options, and a hard top,

If the car you are looking at is a ram air trans am.....that is not a bad deal....most people price the ram air cars out of sight.

I know because I wanted one....but could not find one for less than 10-11kfor the life of me.....but I guess 2 years can make a big difference.

I would go for it man, especially if everything checks out on it and the prices are high in your area.

Do it.....Do it

$8500 isn't bad for a 98 TA. I would say to do it. If it is in good shape, drives well, and is what you're looking for, I wouldn't wait.

If you can do some body work id say look for some with some minor damage. Ive seen supersports and ram airs with 50k or 60k miles on them go for 6 or 7 grand. And all they needed was a new fender, hood and some good body work nothing a lil bondo and paint couldnt fix. And you have to be willing to travel to find a good deal Im looking to go 400 miles soon to pick up a Ram Air.
