Default engine to car

hey i was just wondering if any1 new were and how to read the engine code and match it to the vin to verify the engine is original in a newer fbody. thanks

Honestly I'm not sure, but I can tell you that many things in your engine bay are date coded. Not sure about the block though. Your heads are date coded, if I remember correctly it's easier to read on the driver's side head because it's closer to the front of the motor.

What you can do is look at the sticker on your driver's door jamb for the build date (MM/YY format) and see if the date on your cylinder head corresponds roughly with your build date. For exmaple, I beleive my head was stamped 3/18/98 and my build date was listed as 03/98 on the door sticker. Of course that only tells you the date of the heads but not the block. Maybe someone else can confirm if the block is date stamped???
