LS1 temp
Whats a normal running for the LS1
I noticed while driving yesterday, moving at 40-50 that the temp is slightly below the 210 mark, when I sit for a long time (in traffic conditions) its at 210.
and no matter how much air its taking in the gauge never sits below 200ish (slightly below 210)
Is this normal? my old 96Z used to be at 160 moving and 200 sitting in traffic

The LS1 stock has a high OP Temp for emmisions reasons. With a thermostat and changing the fan on temp you can cool it down. Be aware that the factroy gauge can be off quite a bit. On my car when the needle it perfectly vertical the actual temp is 230* as read off my Snap-On MODIS and OTC scan tools.

The stock t-stat is a 86C (186F) unit. The stock fan settings will allow the motor to reach 220-230 regularly when in traffic. The '99-'02 temp gage is basically useless, and will read right around 210 when the motor is anywhere from about 180-230. The '98 gage works better, and shows minor changes in temp but it's still not 100%. As said above, a scanner is the only way to tell for sure.
