Default LS1 reliability/longevity

I've wanted and LS1 for years and it finally looks like I will be able to get my hands on one this upcoming summer. Basically, my question is, how many miles on average can one expect to get from an LS1 that has been well taken care of over the years. You see, my budget is going to force me into buying an LS1 with around 80,000-90,000 miles on it, and I want to make sure it can last me through the rest of college and grad school (~6 years). It wont be seeing a ton of miles since college is only 3 hours from home, and it will only see weekend usage while I'm off at school. Your thoughts are appreciated!

PS - I'm a long time reader but just registered. I want you all to know that this website was like a dream come true when I found it. There is an endless supply of good advice and knowhow, and I'm happy to find a group of guys who are as passionate about automobiles as I am.

I felt the same when I found this site too I think if the LS1 is well maintained then it should be all good, but hopefully the professionals can chime in

LS1s have only been around for 10 years so far; they seem to be holding up fine with care.

My budget put me into a car with 128K on it when I got it. I beat on it every day I can and drive the snot out of it - 12k in 8 months. It runs better now than when I bought it. Just buy it, you'll thank yourself later

YOu will have to do little stuff, but the major components seem to hold up VERY WELL! I knew a guy who ran 13.3@105 in a base 1998 Z28 A4 car. He had 113K miles in it and a flowmaster weld-in.

I've seen 269,000 on a 98 ls1 on cars.com......very impressive for being a pushrod engine IMO

The LS1 will run for a long time with proper maintenance. I think you should be O.K. - just do a good inspection of the car before buying it. You will have to address some of the usual nickle and dime B.S. that comes with owning a high-mileage F-body (window motors, headlight motors, rattles, squeaks, cheap interior pieces, ect.), but the engine and other major components should be fine for a while yet if you take care of her.
