What if...
You got your windshield smashed in and they come out to replace it. How do you go about getting registration and inspection again? Do you actually have to go do it again? I am sure someone knows. I never thought about it until this afternoon when my neighbor, who has been hounding me about getting parts for her car, brought it up.
Someone is bound to know. I mean, I am even asking in the newb section!

Break the glass around where the registration sticker is then take the registration, still attached to the piece of glass to the DMV. They will issue a new one and charge you a small fee. Don't forget to take proof of insurance with you. You will need to pay to have the vehicle reinspected. Keep the old sticker and the piece of glass it's attached to with you when you drive the car to get it reinspected.

In Texas we have a registration sticker on the windshield that you must renew and replace yearly. The license plates on your vehicle stay the same for seven years before they are madatorily replaced.

In Michigan, we pay once a year for a new license plate sticker that goes by what the car originally cost. I think my Bird runs me about $90, which is insane in my opinion. I do know that they don't charge for a new plate if one is damaged. My friend got rear-ended and his plate got a hole punched through it - he took it in and they issued him a new one at no charge.
