CAGS = Computer Aided Gear Selection (skip shift). Supposed to help improve fuel economy when cruising at lower speeds/lower rpms.

because if you pull out slowly and not see a car or something that was hiding in a blind spot you need to get on it and when CAGS is locking you out of 2nd and 3rd gear your motor just boggs.

you can buy the 30$ skip shift eliminator, or get it deleted via tune, along with EGR!.

when i got my LS1 last saturday, i was told it had a performance chip in it (dont ask me the make or anything like that) as well as the whole SLP package and other mods. anyways my skip shift light comes on but it doesnt lock me out of 2nd, do you think the after market chip overrided the skipshift feature even though the "skip shift" still illuminates?

Forget that, go to radioshack and buy a 2.2 k ohm resistor, pull the connector off the skip shift solenoid, and insert resistor and tape up. This is detailed at installuniversity.com . Why pay $30 or more for something that could cost $0.50 ? Mine has been done for a year and no problems.

basically... but it kinda redirect you into 4th if you are not careful.. bogs the motor...

I did the same thing. All the kits are is a 2.2k resistor with the plugs that go directly into the unit. They do look a lot cleaner, though.

the guy that sold it to you is full of crap.. it may have had a tune. It's a not a powerstroke they don't make LS1 "chips"

basically when you car is at operating temp and you are just cruising around at low speeds it makes you shift from 1st to 4th. Before i did the radioshack bypass i had to wiggle the stick a little for it to let me shift into 2nd because my motor bogged REALLY bad if i shifted straight to 4th. That lasted about a week then i got the chance to pop in the resistor. But at the time some people who rode with me were like.. do you know how to drive stick and i had to explain to them my problem and they gave me this:

and i showed them this:

When the RPMs reach a certain point in 1st gear the skip shift will disengage and you can shift to 2nd gear as normal. At least in my car it does it, at 2500 RPM.

If you aren't racing the **** out of your car the whole time the 1-3-5 shifting pattern is more comfortable for just driving the car around town. There isn't a need to shift into each gear unless you are racing. Skip shift was set up a little too conservative though.
