Default head swap reliability (help)

i have a slight head tick that i've had to live with for about six months while i saved up for a head and cam packagel. i have about 1800-2000 for the mod but my main concern isnt money it's keeping my everyday drivability and reliability... nothing to big maybe a stage 1 or 2 ls6 set up. anyone have any oppinions this is my everyday car... thanks

Look at Thunder Racing's CheaTR cam, nice useable powerband. TR224 is another good one. Just have a look at some of the threads about going to big on the cam, lots of regret...

Try some searches for that and you'll see a lot of talk about that cam with AFR heads and some others. The AFR heads are expensive, but there are other good options to fit your budget.

A reasonable head/cam setup won't hurt reliability, but you will have to do some additional maintenance(springs).

First off, we need some more details on your car....

How many miles on the motor? A4(automatic) or M6(six speed manual) transmission? If A4, do you have a stall converter, if so, what size is it? Do you have any bolt-ons, if so, which ones?

Once you fill in those blanks, I think you will get more useful, specific information.

no such thing as a head tick. probably valvetrain noise though and common with these cars. Drivability isn't effected as much by the heads as it is by the size of your cam and it's overlap. Only way you may change drivability with a head is with a large CC runner that will cut air velocity and make it sluggish in the lower/mid rpm range.
