Flowmaster VS. the World...

I use two 2" pipe plugs on the right side that I got from home depot. Cheap and easy to use.
Though you could get the electric thing, just seems like a waste of money to me.(borla is a waste to me, but it was on the car when I bought it, otherwise I'd probably bought magnaflow or something)

I myself tried out Flowmasters "best" muffler, the Super 40's and the Super 44's. I was not impressed at all with either muffler. Loud as hell on the inside and not as loud outside as my Aerochambers I currently have. I have LT headers, 2.5" mandrel exhaust, x-pipe and Aerochambers dumped on my 86 Cutlass right now. When I started tinkering around with it, the only changes I made were the mufflers only. Both Flowmasters made my car feel slower. It didn't have the throttle response as it did w/the Magnaflows or Aerochambers. I stuck with Aerochambers because they don't hurt HP any on my car and they're louder on the outside but quieter on the inside than either Flowmasters. I was going to stick with Magnaflows but they were seriously quiet. I liked it but the wife didn't.....go figure!! I have fabricated plenty of exhaust systems and needless to say, I've never been impressed with anything Flowmaster has to offer in the form of performance. You have to use a 3" Flowmaster instead of a 2.5" Magnaflow or Aerochamber to get any kind of benefit from them.

I love my flowmaster. Sounds great to me. If it's causing me 3 or 4 hp, who cares basically. Once i put the procharger on all will be well in the world. I heard magnaflow, way to raspy for me. My flowmaster has a little rasp, but not overbearing.

Back in the day, that's all you heard...If they spent half they time they do on designing mufflers than making advertisments...they have a badass muffler...but money talks, hp walks.

again, i don't think the extra 300-400 bucks for the higher end cat backs is really worth the 4 hp you pick up. we need proof... hard evidence.

I love the sound of my flowmaster exhaust. I had mine custom made for me with the 80s series. I really don't like the sound of the other exhausts out there that I've heard. going custom gives you alot of choices, I got 3" tips with rolled lips that go all the way back to the muffler so that you can't see any welds unless you get on your hands and knees and look all the back. here's a video of my car starting at a warm idle. I made it pretty late at night, so I couldn't rev it too loud.

Most of the HP loss and difference results is probably because flowmaster makes a lot different mufflers. The Flowmaster Crossflow muffler they use on the f-body cat back to give the car the illusion of dual exhaust is probably the culprit because that crossflow muffler actually splits the exhaust in tight bends inside the muffler to get it to exit on opposite sides of the muffler. Thats a lot of chambers and bends in a small area. I bet if you loose the dual outlet crossflow muffler and go single outlet there will be minimal to no loss vs other setups.
Be aware those justifying keeping the flowmaster cat back by stating you are going to go heads/cam or forced induction to make up for the power loss from the exhaust have to understand that couple hp loss on a stock car will turn into 10-12hp loss on a heads cam car or forced induction car. That could mean the difference between a 390rwhp car vs a 400rwhp car.
In the end regardless of the hp loss or gain its about how you want the car to sound. I catch flack for having a flowmaster on my car but I'm pleased with the sound it makes. My setup flows great and is super light weight and it only costed $90 its just a 1 chamber on my stock y pipe dumped with no turndown. I only like Flowmasters sound when they are really loud.

I was one of the first to install a Flowmaster exhaust on my first LS1 Formula, that was back in 1998 when the car was brand new. It was my first mod, in fact.
Car lost 5 rwhp on the dyno across the rpm band, and also ran about a tenth slower at the track. I put a cutout on it, and picked up 10 rwhp over stock and ran 1.4 tenths quicker at the track.
But it sounded good. That is, until I got rid of it for something better.

Personally, i would get (a) cutout(s) whatever exhaust i choose, nothin' beats the sound of open engine. It just so happens that i have dual cutouts w/ my flowmaster 80 series. Didn't get them b/c my muffler was a "Slowmaster", got it cause i love the sound of open exhaust. Then when i cap them back up, my flowmaster sounds weak
