Post LS1 Rebuild...

I recently bought a long block LS1 engine off Ebay and I need some help. This engine came out of a 1999 Corvette. The crank cracked. There is no visable damage to the rods or block. The engine had 42,000 miles at the time of the swap. It came with the heads, block, pistons (they are scorched terribly), rods, oil pan, valvetrain and valve covers (I also got the cracked crank to see the damage to the crank). I know I need a crankshaft and have heard that the stock cranks are good to around 900 hp. I would like to rebuild the motor to stock specs or for nitrous. What is the cheapest route for both? Thank you,

well of course you know the anwser that stock would be the cheapest but for a bit more you could build it up stronger for nitrous use. and do you know why the crank is cracked?

If you intend to use nitrous, it would be cheaper to build for it now than to rebuild it again later if you don't and use nitrous. For nitrous, at minimal you need better pistons than stock. I'd also suggest having a good engine shop check exceptionally well for cracking, it takes a lot of heat/pressure to crack a crank, and most engine cracks are not visible to the untrained eye.

Simple, hit it with a hammer. Cranks make a drastically different sound when you hit it with a hammer when 1 is cracked and the other is not. If it rings, it's not cracked.

deff pistons and rings, also w/ the extra combustion of no2 the factory rods will be under a lot of stress depending upon how much spray you use.
