Default LS6 Heads

i bought my car recently and have started putting some mods on it and i was showing off the new headers on my car to my buddy and he told me i have ls6 heads.

to me they look like stock ls1 heads but he said i can tell by the coolant bypass that goes underneath the intake manifold and touches both the heads on the bolts closest to the intake manifold.

is this true? maybe someone can take a pic of their ls6 and post it up?

i just wanna know what im up against because ive had some races where i shouldnt have one but pulled, like pulling car lengths on a 04 cobra..

someone plz help?!?!?!

Look for a 3 digit casting number by the #2 cyl exhaust. Believe 853 and 241 are LS1, and LS6 is 243. Mine are 241.

ls6 heads will add 20 hp but i doubt youd be pulling on an 04 cobra. especiall lengths.. again. check the casting number and see if it says 243. and theyre should be screw holes in the left head for where egr mounts in 98-00 ls1s.. but mainly check the casting #

yea they are 839 i belive, id go and check but its raining like biotch so ill wait till later.

i did pull on a 04 cobra, about 1.5 lenghts. i pulled on a cammed ls1, i pull 1.5-2 lengths on stock ls1's.. i have a couple of vids but not on the computer. i guess i just have a strong car, or i can drive pretty good.

like was already said, the 243 casting are the LS6 heads. All 01-02 F-bodies came with the LS6 intake, 98-00 had the LS1 intake. As for the coolant crossover tube, your friend is lost, please keep him away from your motor.

I think your buddy meant LS6 intake. I have read that a small run a 2002 F-Bodies did get LS6's not sure if it was an actual LS6 or if it was heads only or if it was a LS6 block with LS1 heads.

Can someone shed some light on this?

A few made it out with the LS6 block. It makes no power difference or anything, its not even worth mentioning. They still got all LS1 rotating assemblies, heads, cam. 01-02 had the LS6 intake like has been mentioned, but it was standard equipment the last 2 years.

Unless they were changed by you or someone else, you don't have LS6 heads on your f-body.

Was I the only one expecting someone to come in here and say that?

a very few 02 cars got ls6 heads because they were running short on 241's. your car is a 2000, so unless someone put 243's on your car before you owned it, you dont have ls6 heads. you would be considered lucky to get 241's.

my 02 had 243 heads on it. i bought it with 9k miles from a dealer who took it on trade from an older lady. i know i didnt put them on there, so unless the lady or the dealer did as far as i know it came with them from the factory.

I'd check the service records.

i dont have it any more and car fax only had 4 records from gm to dealer and dealer to owner and owner back to dealer. but like has been said just cause its not on car fax doesnt mean something hasnt been done. although the dealer did have a side shop where you could add whatever you want to the car and have it plugged in to the sale price but who knows for sure.
