Default Hello everyone

Hello everyone, I just joined up. I have recently purchased my first ls1. Anyway I have been on many different forums and generally Its a good thing to introduce yourself. My name is Jake I live in Indiana and I am 20 years old. I bout my 98 z28 m6 about a month ago..

Now for my first question. The first thing I want to do is my exhuast. There is a small shop near me and I brought my car in to have it lifted up and take a look underneath. Its of course the stock set up. With out changing headers should I have 3inch pipes run straight out the back?? wit 2 cats and no muffler. Would this sound bad?? anyway I really like this forum and look forward to meeting many of you

Thanx,
Jake

it would sound like *** in my opinion. If you want loud look at the tru-dual set up from texas speed and performance- sponsor on here. Or you could just go with a decent catback.

where at in Indiana? and, i know a guy that just has cats with no mufflers straight out the back and it sounds dec. but not great. GMMG is imo the best sounding exhaust for the ls1 but its very pricy. i believe the 70 or 80 series (one of the other) flowmaster sounds good just fabbed in and isnt too loud or expensive but everyone on this board says its like stock. its preference. most dont recommend flowmaster b/c of non substantial gains but its up to you. 5-10hp isnt a lot so just a muffler isnt going to do a whole lot anyways. its all about what you are looking for.

If you want a good loud exhaust go with the SLP loudmouth. It's a great sounding catback. As far as plugs just go with the NGK's ...can't recall exact plug...tr5 perhaps.

A "catback" is exactly how it sounds. It's everything from the cat's back.

Everyone will have a dif opinion on which catback to get or what kind of setup to use. I have never heard an SLP or a Borla in person with the cats. Mine is kooks/ory/borla, and my buddies setup is SLP.

Personally I do not think running straight pipe's off of the cats would sound too hot.

A clear lid, as in see-through-transparent lid?
Never heard of such a creature.

What is the benefit I would get from changing headers, would there be that big of a differrence??? Im thinking about getting rims are 18's to big...or are 17's better, I by no means want to sacrafice performance for an extra inch.
Thanx,
Jake

i think the only place to get a clear lid would be on here or maybe from a nonsponser (ebay)

as far as running a str8 catback with stock manifolds/cats, i had slp loudmouth2 and i liked the sound, it was aggressive and very loud...but like Siwel said, everyone will have opinions, try youtube or fquick for soundclips, maybe you will here something you like

Cool, I am from Greenfield, Indiana about 14 miles outside of Indianapolis. I just got my new car 2 weeks ago. I got a 2002 Z28 with 67,000 miles on it. I love my car and right now all it has is a catback. I fun with your car! I am sure you will. I am also 20 years old.
