Default jack stands?!?

Ok I can't figure it out. I see sooo many people who do their own work on their cars without use of a proper lift. So is there like a 4-piece jack-stand type kit I can buy that will give me access the under my car? I think I would be happy even if I can get like 1.5 feet lift for the car. I also want it to be safe, ofcourse.

You need a high roof to have a lift. I'd get one if I had clearance for it. Stands I've seen were sold in pairs. But if you're asking if there is a system that lifts your car like 4 stands, there is. It's a drive on ramp that you jack up using a regular floor jack. I saw a review on it in a mag a couple of years ago. They said it seemed kind of shaky jacking it up, but once in the air and locked in place, it was pretty solid. Not worth it to me, so I just use stands.

You dont need anything special to work on our cars. I have four regular jack stands and a low profile jack.

Thats a good idea, I have two jack stands that I normally use as safetys if my jack fails. I think I am going to get a few more of those.
