T-stat on LS1
T-stat on LS1 has anyone drove without one. i took mine out of my 89 pickup that had a 350 and it actually ran much cooler and never over heated after that, same with my dads 76 1/2 Z28 he had. only down side was that the heater took for ever to warm and at that didn't get very warm, winter sucked.
i just thought about that today but figured it would throw codes or some other BS. i'm trying to learn about this motor and tricks you can do with it and you guys are a huge help. thanks

Re: T-stat on LS1 Don't do that man. Unlike 2nd gen SBC's, LS1's are fully PCM controled VIA OBDII and has to have a stat in. Go with a 160o stat and reprogram PCM, Or (cheaper alternative) 160o with manual control fan switch.

Re: T-stat on LS1 Keep a stat, I think the PCM looks at water temp as one item to help decide when to do closed loop vs open loop and some transmission things like lock the converter. 160 should be low enough
