Default Engine ID?

Does anyone know if there is a way to distinguish between a truck 4.8 and a 5.3 without the VIN #? All I have is the engine, 4l60E trans, and the computer. I was told it came out of a '99 Silverado.......Thanks.

The casting numbers on the heads are one way, but I dont have/know em. Maybe someone who does can help you out better. What info are you trying to find exactly, just if its a 4.8/5.3 engine or what
