PCV Catch Can
Catches the oil that would have gone in you intake manifold.
Kind of worth having, depending on how much blow by you have. Meaning that a lot of oil goes down the intake manifold.
I don't have one on my current car but, I did on my last car. The 3 oz can filled up every 1k miles.

Well, not so much the engine, but more-so the engine compartment. All a PCV is, is exhaust gas that is exiting the engine. Air is pulled in through the breather cap, and exits through the PCV. Carbureted have a vacuum on the carburetor that pulls in those gasses, and it is just burned off. I don't particularly know about the lsx motors, but if the hose is not installed on a SBC, then exhaust gasses will be emitting everywhere, and most likely oil will be shooting out of the breather on the other valve cover because of the pressure that is built up.
