Re: if you descreen your maf and it throws a code... I believe that you should be able to put it back in... as long as you didn't damage it taking it out. You'd have to unplug your battery for a few minutes to clear the code though, atleast that's the way it used to be... not sure about these cars. Never had to do it. BUT, I descreened my MAF, and didn't get any codes at all.... did you? Or are you just wondering about "what would happen"?

Re: if you descreen your maf and it throws a code... Check the code. Descreening the MAF shouldn't cause a code. It may be something other than the MAF, you might have a vacuum leak from an improperly installed bellow hose, or you could have damaged a MAF wire.

Re: if you descreen your maf and it throws a code... sorry i should have been more clear, this was a "what would happen" question. im planning on doing this, ive just been reading so many posts about people complaining about throwing codes after descreening the maf that i wanted to know if it would be possible to go back to stock (if necessary). thanks for the replies

I have NEVER heard of anyone throwing a code for removing the MAF screen.

Re: if you descreen your maf and it throws a code... arguably, yes. Its an obstruction, so it should. The only way descreening your maf will throw a code is if you damage the MAF in the process.
Re: if you descreen your maf and it throws a code... no, it can also throw off the sampling, and effect the AF ratio. The stock "screen" is a 1/2" moneycomb mesh, a lot more than just a "debris screen" that most mafs have.
As a "general rule" you want to have 8-12" of straight pipe in front of a maf setup.. obviously this is not possible with a LS1 f-body, without a blower setup.
You can remove it, and try tio reinstall it.
but i would pick up a extra set of ends, and try it that way, if your really dead set on messing with the maf, to squeeze maybe an extra 2 hp out of your car..
