Default Bottle Mounting Question

Hey guys...

I need to know how to mount my 10lb NX bottle in my '03 Cobra. I want it in the trunk so I guess I'll just screw it in. I'm concerned about the gas tank though since it's pretty much right under the trunk. I don't want to drill into that.

I created a mounting bracket that fit where the spare tire goes when I had my LS1 so I didn't have to drill into the car at all.

Any tips on how I would go about doing this...maybe self-tapping screws?

Thanks.

Dan

P.S. I asked around on the Mustang boards and no one was able to help. I should've asked here in the first place.

You can drill a small pilot just enough to get through the trunk pan and use a wire hanger or a piece of welding rod to fish around and check for clearance. If there is sufficient clearance you can use self tapping screws.
Personally I would weld a couple of nuts to a steel plate and tack the plate to the trunk floor. Lay the carpet back down over the plate and cut small holes into the carpet to get my bolts through. If you want to remove the plates later it shouldn't be much work to chisel/cut the welds off and grind them down.

Unit213, I drilled my friends Stang (with a smile too hehe). Theres roughly 3/16 or so between them, some spots more, but none less. I used some insulation tape around the drill bit for a stop placed about 1/4" up from the tip, this lets takes into account the thickness of the metal your drilling. I used some large short bolts, similar to self tapping, and a touch of epoxy to help make sure they stay seated when pulling on the bracket when removing the bottle. Mounted it on the right rear. Good luck...besides its only a cobra!

You can however use a secondary method...get a 1"x8"xXX" piece of hardwood board, cut it just over the length of the trunck space front to back, cut it on an angle as well. Paint it to match the carpet, mount bottle brackets, and then wedge it in...I used this method in the wheel well of my Z, and a few other cars not all slomaros either..so it works very well. No drilling, and when you want, just pry like hell til it comes up and sell the Cobra when the GTO is out, or the camaro makes a comeback.

You noticed I did put you on the list right?

Charlie.
