Default why propane instead of nitrous?

I ran into a BTR Viper a week ago, and needless to say i got my *** handed to me. Anyway, the guy had a btr stroker kit with a 200 hp shot of PROPANE!!!!!!!
I'm new to the nitrous scene so please dont ridicule me because of my lack of knowledge. P.S. (i'm only 19 ) As far as i understand propane has a higher octane rating and is cheaper than NO2, but if thats the case why hasn't propane caught on like the nitrous oxide.

BTR guys use Propane with Nitrous, the PP is a very high octane, from my research anywhere from 113to over 130octane rating so it provides the muscle for the Nitrous to not detonate. You can use a single 5# D.O.T. safe bottle of PP for several bottles of Nitrous. I was looking into this before then buoght the NXL kit.

They (Viper guys) sometimes use nitrous and propane. Propane is like 130 octane, so they use this instead of gasoline with a wet nitrous system. I have seen some pics.....15 lb. nitrous bottle next to a propane tank....looks silly but seems to work well. Its sort of like adding a separate fuel system to run high octane race fuel through the fuel solenoid when using nitrous, so really I guess it isnt any more silly than having a 1-4 gallon fuel cell, lines, filter, pump, regulator, etc....
Basically they run the stock fuel system and use the propane to add high octane "fuel" for nitrous use.

Also isnt propane a gas? Wouldnt this help avoid fuel puddling on a wet shot?

Best place to get jetting info is to contact BTR. They have kits, as does a few other places....DO NOT use your BBQ PP tank.

Still considering this route, of course tied into the NXL.

ALot of Turbo Buick guys run propane also. I have had a couple of Grand Nationals and I ran the SMC Alky injection but lots of guys were switching to propane injection. They were not running it with nitrous though.

Exactly, I own a Grand National and was considering this setup when they guy told me what he was running. Just wanted to find out if there was any significant difference.

i worked on plenty of vehicals for the city that ran on propane instead of gasoline. these were completey stock cars but i never noticed drop in hp from them. i wonder why it never really hit the market and stoped gasoline all together. maybe it is that awful smell.

this is the kit I was looking into. I am still thinking of it. Easy to set up with the NXL, just need more time before I deploy. But to satisfy those interested:

Cap off the fuel solenoid, and fuel feeder lines off the new NXL rails. Mount a distro block to each side (or where ever you want it), run the fuel feeder lines from the NXL kit to the Distro block and run the PP to a noi before each block. Just need to find out about jet sizing and all. Now running a 180 shot, soon 220. I dont need to be experimenting with the wrong pp jet sizing.
