Red face NX Remote opener help needed

I have the old style (w/the band clamp) I am running it to a Zex remote opener switch. The switch has it's own power source & is also grounded so that's not the issue.

I ran the black wire from the opener to ground & the red to 1 side of the switch. Obviously the switch is 2 way so I spliced a piece of wire to the red from the opener to the other prong on the switch so both directions worked.

I can hear the motor turn on when I flip the switch in either direction, but it will only actually work in one direction. I'm assuming my adding a piece of wire to run to the other prong is the issue so how should I wire this thing up?

Hi NewCar,

The two wires of the remote bottle valve opener flip flop polarities when the switch is pressed one way or the other. Because of this, you cannot ground one of the wires from the opener.

I am not sure which switch ZEX uses so you may need to contact them to get pin out information. In case the ZEX switch is the same as the NX switch, here’s a link to the old style NX opener instructions. http://www.nitrousexpress.com/Instructions/opener.pdf The NX switch wiring info is on page 2.

Here is a link to the NX switch so you can compare it to the ZEX switch: http://www.nitrousexpress.com/produc...ils.php?id=340

Those are the instructions I already have. So should I wire the black wire to the prong for the other side of the switch then?

Here are the Zex instructions showing the switch

I reviewed the ZEX instructions and they say to connect the red wire from the opener to POST #5 on the toggle switch. They also say to connect the BLACK wire from the opener to POST #2 on the toggle switch. So remove that jumper and take that black wire from the opener off of ground and connect it to terminal # 2 on the switch.

Hopefully you have the colored wires on the ZEX switch because the ZEX instructions do not show terminal numbers for the other wires (only colors)
Here’s what the ZEX instructions show for the other wires: Connect the RED wire from the toggle switch harness to +12volts; preferably at the battery positive terminal. Then, connect the BLACK wire from the switch harness to a good chassis ground.
