Default Timing question?

I have a question about pulling timing. I used to own a LT1 car with a small shot. Now I am building a LS1 car with a bigger shot (200 shot). I plan on letting it just rip in on solid hit. I was told for a shot that big I would need to pull roughly 3-4 degrees of timing to run that shot safely. I am going to have my ignition box pull the timing if need be. Just looking for some advice that will help keep my motor together!

Thanks,
Allen

dude your gonna need to pull more than 3-4 deg for that big of a shot. about 2-3 deg for every 50 horse. so at min you would need to pull 8 deg. some cars like more, some like less. do some research. and if your putting it on a stock bottem end motor, your tune needs to be spot on and chk your plugs. prob run a br7ef, poss even an 8 plug.GL

It has a stock 6.0 bottom end but I went through and put ARP bolts in it to toughen it up. I plan on running an 8 plug.

What is your max timing NA? I would start with pulling around 10 degrees and work the timing back in via plug reading. The car should haul with a 6.0 and 200 shot. A #8 non-proj tip plug is a minimum on the 200 shot at stock compression so we need to know what heads and compression you plan on running. The more info you can give the better answers you will get.

It has a set of 806 heads on it right now. I want to get my hands on some after market heads before spring if I can. And to the best of my knowledge the motor should be at 10.1:1 cr. Do you think I should move up to a #9 plug with that much spray?

I may be on the safe side but I run a #8 with VpBlue 112 on a 250 shot. On the 200 shot I ran #7s on stock compression.
