Default Timing & Nitrous

Have a buddy of mine who is planning on spraying his car. His tuner told him that his timing set @ 28 degrees of timing on a 175 -200 shot would be fine if tuned right. I know some car's like high timing, but just wanted some more input.

Tell him he better find a new tuner and if not a good engine builder because his won't last long. He needs to pull at least 2 degrees for every 50 HP and then tune from there by reading his plugs. Make sure he uses NGK BR7EF plugs too.

200 shot I would be running in the 18 degree range depending on what the engine liked on motor.

Your buddy needs to get an account on here and on yellowbullet.com and start reading.

@ Carter 01 I've been telling him that for the longest...lol I don't think it's safe at all...with timing that high you have no room for error... If you don't mind me asking who tuned your car?

Tony Whetstone from Tallahassee Fl handles the NA tune and I tune the Nitrous with efi live. Basically all that I have learned on nitrous came from this site and yellowbullet. Follow the fastest members and be humble with your approach. They will teach you if you listen..... Excuse me, your friend

I can show you pictures of only pulling 5 degrees from 28 on a 200 shot looks like. Trust me its not pretty.

Bent crank
2 spun mains
2 bent rods
4 spun rods.

Take a look at this. 28 degrees total timing pulled 5 degrees down to 23 (This was done by mistake).

Yeah, me. It was good for the motor tune and it was at 28 just like yours. Geoff @EPS did that part. I didn't pull the correct timing for the 2nd stage and it went boom on the 200 shot. Had i pull twice the timing i did, it would probably still be alive.

I would go by the 2 degrees for every 50 hp and tune from there reading the plugs. I have always used that rule for a base to start from and have never even burnt a plug. Always better to start on the side of caution. Check out Carter 01's threads. He knows his stuff. He is hitting a stock bottom end with 250 -300 and it lives because he doesn't get greedy and tunes based off what the engine is telling him from the plugs. I know someone with a bolt on LS1 , low miles and he just put rods through the pan on a 125 shot because of too much timing. There are some tuners out there that have never even run a nitrous car and will tell you anything.

just dont let the fuel get away from you either, keep it lean and low on timing to enjoy it. too much fuel will cause havoc just as much as being overtimed........start low and work the tune into the motor. then move up. patience is very good.
