Default how should i build the motor

Ive been reading alot on this site and not sure what to do , Id like to run a nitrous system on my 2000 ss that has 160,000 miles on it . My question is this with this many miles what should i do to the engine as far as building it to hold 100/150 shot of nitrous , what type of pistons , springs , rods , ect ...

i've been reading about the same things......i'm leaning towards pulling my stock block, then sending it to ERL Performance as a core and having them send me a forged 408 shortblock.....seems like they do great work and their prices aren't too bad

If the car is not burning oil, I would do a solid tune up on the car. Plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter etc. Upgrade the pump to a racetronix 255 with hotwire kit. Run a set of br7ef plugs and spray it as is. This suggestion is under the impression the car is sound mechanically via regular oil changes etc... Learn how to tune the nitrous and keep the timing safe and you will be fine on a 150 shot.

THERE IS NO WAY I WOULD BUILD A LS1 FOR A 150 SHOT.

ERL will not accept an LS1 block.

You would come out cheaper finding an LS2 block and building a 402 or 404 stroker. You could also look for an LS3 or L92 block and get 416-418 cubes. Whether its a 383 all the way up to 418 the stroker kit price is the same.

Depends on your pocketbook. Carter and I have both been around a long time. Go with his advice. The best motor set up I had for fun and a budget is get a 6.0 block. And bore it .30 over and make a 370. Get a good cam custom ground for your set up and descent heads. I can help you if you have questions. But for now I would do what carter said to the T. If the motor is good. Do a compression test on if you dont know the history.

They way the block was cast and it is the weakest block, especially the 98-99 blocks. I don't know of anybody that will sleeve and ls1 block but anybody will stroke it out for you.

If you have the intent on sending a block to ERL to get sleeved, the 5.3 aluminum and the ls2 are the strongest factory blocks. You can buy an aluminum 5.3 on here for a couple hundred bucks. The ls2 goes for more though.
