Best Pistons and rods for N2O?
OK guys,
I have to replace the rings. I was thinking while I'm there I'm going to throw in a new set of pistons and rods, who has the best P/R for N2O? Should I go flat top or domed and coated or not? 150HP shot max. TIA,

Ok, I think I'm going to have to go with domed pistons with valve reliefs for the new cam, almost 600 lift. So who makes the best domed pistons for nitrous? ANYONE?

Get a set of eagle rods. They have a pretty good price tag on em, and theyre forged. Then for pistons, call the different companies to see what they offer. There is no best piston, becasue the best piston for the individula is one that is custom made for his/her set up.
The cheapest pistons forged are Wiseco's @ $420.
Diamond and JE's are very good also, but pricey.
Use your stock rods with ARP bolts in them unless your making over 600 rwhp. then id suggest eagles. But i run the wisecos and stock rods /w arp's estimating 700 rwhp.

Thanks for the replies guys,
I think I'm going to go with Diamond coated dome pistons with reliefs for valve clearance on the big cam and Lunati rods with ARP rod bolts. That ought to be strong enough for the HP's I'll be making. I'm going with the stock crank, I've never heard of one breaking yet.

Kwik SS,
Diamond doesn't list the LS1 pistons on their web site yet but you call them @ 877 552-2112(toll free)and ask for Chris Gelineau he can answer any question you have about their pistons. The domed pistons will raise the C/R but I'm not sure how much. I also think they come wrist pins but do not include rings. If you don't want to increase the C/R you can fly cut the flat top pistons, they may even carry them or could probably do it for you, just ask. Depending on how much N2O you intend on spraying you might want to look into coating the tops also.

I don't know if these are the best or not, but I have JE forged pistons and Scat lightweight forged rods in my motor. I was told my motor can handle up to a 350 shot with no problems.
Kwik,
Sean Freese at MMT has done most of the work on my car so far. MMT is putting in a machine shop at their new facility and the guy that does his lower engine build is Watt, they call him the mad scientist. I talked to him briefly last weekend about doing the lower end, he is extremely competent on LS1s. Sean also uses a guy by the name of Trevor in Rockwall to do his head work, as a matter of fact he had to refresh my heads as I had 2 intake valves bent and my valve guide seals were leaking, he does good work also.

I went with custom domed JE pistons w/reliefs and Oliver billet rods as my pistons came with wrist pins but no rings. My rings are the molly version Sealed power. My crank is a Lunati billet 4340 forged and I will be prepared to shoot some serious juice when its broken in....Will see though...
