Default Piston coating...thoughts

I just got some new pistons, I was thinking of having them coated with Cerakote. Or at least just the tops, the skirts are already coated from Diamond. These are going in a 408 with about 12:1 cr and spraying around 300 or so. The coating would be free to me. Pros/cons? I'm not finding a lot of information out there about this.

Thanks, I'll have a look. So it seems like if you do every coating available you could get a few HP out of it. I'm only talking about one coating and I was looking at it more for protection on a nitrous engine. They tested N/A and supercharged. I was thinking maybe it could be a little added insurance? What are your thoughts about that Chris?

I know the article talks more about the supercharging side of it but the coating side of the article is about the same for the nitrous. If you plan on racing the car hardcore and spraying every time you're racing then I would do the coating on the pistons. You're not going to hurt yourself by coating the pistons, but it would ultimately be best to talk to your engine builder about doing that.

Another read on coating.

every time it goes to the track it'll get a healthy dose of nitrous. My engine builder is very old school and not that open minded! I'll read this article after the gym, thanks for it and the advise.

Ya nice read. Seems like it couldn't hurt. I guess I'll go ahead and do it. Thanks for the links.

Don't.

Save your money or spend it elsewhere.

On a nitrous car, a thermal coating is not going to save you. You will lift a ring land or melt a hole with or without the coating.

When I first put my engine together I did diamond with thermal top coating and anti friction skirt coatings.... $2000+ for 8 slugs.... They melted the same as the $1200 set with no coating.
