ProMax Timing retard question

I am installing a ProMax in my 2002 FBody and I don’t want to use the LNC-2000 to pull timing. I am going to pull timing by grounding pin 53 on the red PCM connector. As the instructions for the ProMax state, the timing retard outputs can be configured to pull to ground or pull to +12 the corresponding output wire. Most of the diagrams I have seen use this technique thru a relay. The relay seems redundant to me if the ProMax can do it.
Has anybody tried it this way: Timing retard output on the ProMax wired directly to pin 53 on the red PCM connector ? Configured to pull to ground of course
Thanks for your thoughts

If you are still having trouble setting up that timing retard module. I would just recommend having a separate nitrous tune on hand for track days, and just retard the max timing in the tune. Sorry I do not have any info to help with your Promax question. Best of luck !
