Window switch vs. rev limiter

Default Window switch vs. rev limiter

A friend of mine, (who unfortunetly has a Mustang). Blew his plastic intake manifold to pieces last night. The confusing thing is that his rev limiter was set to 6500 and his nitrous window switch was set to 6200. So, he had a 300 rpm safety. He missed the 2-3 shift and kaboom.
Now, has anyone ever experienced or experimented with how close you can get the window switch to the rev limiter? Any info would be appriceated.

I'm spraying to 6100, & my limiter is set @ 6250, my shift light is set to 6150. Now you got me thinking either I need to raise my limiter a little or drop my window to 6k rpm's.

I do know that I need to lower the turn on rpm of my shift light, in 1st it just wind's up so quick that every once in a while right when the shift light comes on I hit the limiter. I haven't blown off my intake though.


One thing is though, I've seen 3 or 4 mustangs at the track in the last 2 years or so blow off their intakes, while I've only seen Video of LS1's blowing their intakes off. Knock on wood that I just didn't jinx my self.

my limiter is set at 6200, and my window switch is at 6000 (with shift light @ 5800 to help prevent hitting the limiter). so far so good

How long has he been running with his setup? First run or years of fun? What year/model mustang does he have?

Its a newer 4.6l, I think its around a 2000 or 2001 but not 100% sure. Its his second year with the system. He did recently step it up to a 150 shot though.

dont miss a shift and youll be fine.

i dont like to spray much over 6 grand, unless your motor is built for it- give yourself 200 or so rpms till your rev limiter.

he blew up because when he missed the shift he went WOT and sprayed nitrous with no load on the engine.

Eithor that, or if he has missed shifts before, his fuel pump just couldn't do it and he ran lean. Still don't know enough about the setup or car. Can only guess.
