Fitting assembly questions
Fitting assembly questions When do you use teflon compound on threads, NPT or AN? When connecting AN to NPT NPT to AN etc? Just want to know before I start assembling my wet kit, as the first kit I had (5177 NOS) suffered from a few minor leaks. Also how hard do you tighten the fittings? Who uses the special AN tools? And anything special for the fuel lines?
And is it ok to test the noids by placing the negative wire on the negative battery post and the positive wire to the positive post? They run off of 12v right? Just checking.

The instructions that came with my NX kit said to now use the sealer on any flare fittings. I’m pretty sure this is all AN fittings, so I think we should only use it on the NPT fittings that thread into the noids.

I always use Teflon Paste on all NPT fittings, AN Fittings dont require any type of sealer. Just make sure all fittings are snug, after everything is put together check for leaks and tighten where needed.

I agree with BTL Fed. One problem I always have is knowing how tight an AN fitting should be. I don't use the special wrenches. I usually hand tigthen them and then give them about 1/4 turn. That may not be the correct method though. I do believe it is possible to overtighten AN fittings though, expecially swivels. it would be good to get some experienced opinions on this.
