Default running out of gear?

What does it mean when you run out of gear? I don't get how it happens, or how getting to 4th gear too early hurts time. I want to run a 100 shot but was told by a shop my stall is too large and that I would run out of gear. Do you guys agree? If so how can I fix this. I don't want to change what I have so far but am willing to do new mods to make this work. I have stock 3.23 gears and was thinking about going up to 3.73. The rest of my mods are in sig. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Lou

Running out of gear means that when get to the end of the track and your in 4th (drive in auto) and your rpm's hit your rev limiter before the end of the track. In other words you need to shift into gear. With that 100 shot you should be fine with 3.73 gears.Hell in my old TA (w/ auto) I had 4.10 gear in it and sprayed 100 shot and went 12.06@109 w/1.59 60' on street tires but that was at 6500rpms on a stock bottom end.

You will go faster if you can run the quarter in 3rd (1 to 1 gear) than 4th. I'd be surprised if you ran out of gear with a 100 shot, 3800 stall and 3.73s though. The easiest thing to do is make a pass with your 3.23 and see where you cross the traps for RPM. Use a gear calculator like on prestage.com and plug in your numbers to make the finish line rpm match what you really ran. Then change the gear parameter to 3.73 and see if shows your finish line RPM below your redline.

Cool, that helps alot guys. When I get it tunned after the cam I plan to shift at 6500-6600 rpms. I wonder when it would be best to spray? I'm thinking maybe 2nd gear. Any suggestions?

Every car I've ever had I would spray right out of the hole. Whether it was an auto or stick.Traction permitting of course. But it's up to you, you shouldn't activate the nitrious until 3000rpm's or higher, so if you can't keep up the rpm's on the line your gonna have to wait until 3000rpm's after you launch.Or go and get a windows switch and let that take care of yhe nitious activation for you.
