...it takes to trip the contactor on a 20 or 30 amp relay?
I'm wiring a time delay relay between my relay ground and a window switch on my second stage, and I need to make sure the ground on the time delay won't pass enough current to prematurely open the solenoid. If I need to, I have some 100 ohm resistors at home. If I remember my math (Volts=Amps*Resistance, then Amps=Volts/Resistance), one 100 ohm resistor at 12v on the time delay ground would pass 120mA or 0.12 amps.

But first, do I need to?

 

A couple hundred milla amps. Not even close to one amp. That is why we can run many activation switches through relays off one small amp switched 12v supply line, no amperage draw.

 

Thanks. I can test the amperage with a multimeter without arming the system. That helps a bunch. I certainly don't want both stages coming on at once when running street tires.

 

It is actually closer to 30 mA's +/- depending on manufacture.

Ok, I'll post this just for search reference. The Dynotune DIP style time delay only pulls 6.5mA so it's not enough to pop a relay open.

 

Oh, no prob. When the DT delay circuit is on it only uses 6.5mA's to run. What you need to check is how much the "trigger" line can "sink", (how much current can pass though it on its way to ground) or "Source", (how much current current it can supply).

very simply,

sink = how much water can get down the drain, if it cant flow enough, bad things occure.

source = how much it can put out before it can't keep up with the requirements, ie: not a big enough fuel pump to supply all the fuel you need for that 300 shot of N2O.

Hope that helps. I have no dought what so ever that the DT delay can sink or source more then enough current for a relay, most likely even two of them. It was desinged to trip them so you are deffinetly good to go.
