Default Pressure Regulators

Why doesn't anyone talk about nitrous pressure regulators? I would think that it would be a key component in a nitrous system.

If a regulator is used, what psi setting would be selected?

Regulators kill flow, so they are a now go with a nitrous system, as of this time.

I imagine it does kill flow. But it would seem to me, that if you are bracket racing and using a dry shot along with a progressive controller, that a nitrous pressure regulator set to something like 800 psi would give you consistant runs until your bottle pressure dropped below 800 psi. Granted, you will probably not make as much HP for the size shot that you are running. Not trying to argumentative.

Youll have to see how the regulator reacts to kind of understand. Its really about the capacity of the regulator and what its max flow rate can be while maintaining that regulated pressure. Most regulators on the market that will regulate the high pressure we are talking with nitrous probably would NOT be able to flow more than a 25-30 shot IMO and maintain the 750-800 or even 1000 psi.

What will happen is it will open and initially have your 800 psi of nitrous begine to flow (through whatever the cumulative orifice sizes end up being) and then it will drastically taper off and take a nose dive in pressure withing a second or two. Of course as soon as you stop spraying it will bring the pressure back up to your set 800 psi quickly. But nitrous flow is alot more volume than these standard gas regulators you see on a regular basis can handle. I am sure there are some out there...or you could Tee your feed line off and stack about 5 or 6 or however many regulators you would need in parallel to maintain good pressure x the shot size you wanted. But those regulators aint cheap. Generally for those pressures between $150-400 each.

It could be done....but if you want any type of substantial shot your going have to come up with it and do your research.

When my car is back up and running I may take my regulator and hook it up to a 50 shot dry pill at 900 psi and see how much it can maintain pressure. Based on how I see it work Ill say it can regulate between 25-50 hp worth of juice at 800 psi.

Also in any area where there is a significant pressure drop ( like a regulator) there will be a significant gain in heat energy. The regulator would be getting cold, when you want your intakes air charge to be getting cold.
A regulator simply wouldn't earn its keep IMO.

It would be more productive to simply have the fuel pressure change in proportion to the change in nitrous pressure.

Ricky, I did not take it that way at all. Just didnt want to sound like I was.

I didnt think about the drop off in pressure once the shot was initiated. It would be a lot more drastic of a change dropping from 800 psi at shot than it would be at bottle pressure dropping at initation.

I guess these reasons are why no one talks about them. Thanks for the enlightenment.
