large shot with tight ring gap?
If the ring butts it's usually piston death due to the top of the piston cracking off.
Bigger bore engines need larger gaps, and high power engines need larger gaps too. What you're thinking is the reverse of the norm.
I think unless you're running the top ring very far from the deck and/or running alcohol I doubt you will get away with the tight gaps.
I don't know that for sure, but I wouldn't try it myself.
