Default timing dilema

I was wondering if you could answer a question for me. I'm running 114 leaded octane on a 200 shot. I've talked to you about my situation before. On a 150 shot I put 160 to the wheels through a six speed, with 34 degrees timing, 91 octane + torco. I switched transmissions, to a th400 and only put 130 down on a 200 shot running 114 leaded and full-34 degree timing. In both situations I wasn't pulling any timing out through knock retard. My question is it possible to gain more than 130 horse by pulling out 6-7-8 degrees of timing? Why or why not? I was told that with the timing I am running and the octane, it is not allowing the piston to come up as quick as it should?????? Please explain, thank you

Chris
