I'd like to run N2O on my 02 T/A, but the best gas we get is 91 octane, so does that have a big effect on how big a shot I can run (looking for a 100 dry)
Any recomendations on what to do to keep it from detonating (timing retard, octane boost, cooler stat, less of a shot)

Well it seems you know what to do. The ruel of thumb is 2 degrees of timing for ever 50 hp of n2o. There are a lot of guys running 91 octane and spraying as long as to take timing out you will be ok if you have scanning softwear to log for kr i would do that.

 

So what timing retard device would you suggest (this is primarily for track use BTW)
No scanning software either (any suggestions on that)

 

Can you get Race Gas? If so, consider getting some 100 unleaded (103, 104 etc) and mix it in the tank. Works good.

If I can, what would be a good mix 1/2 & 1/2 or more race less street, or the other way

 

I would think that as long as its tuned properly (AFR and timing), he should have no problem with a 100 dry shot on 91 octane.

 

I think, and a lot of others probably do too. You should be fine with 91 octane and colder plugs on a 100 shot. Anyone disagree? or agree? JMO I run a 150 wet shot on a stock motor, besides the plugs of course. Have not had any problems yet. Good luck, happy spraying.

 

I agree, and have seen it many times and have run 91 with a 100hp and more with no issues. This is with no timing pulled. Likely you will need no timing pulled until 150+hp shots. Still best to log for a/f and kr though.

Turo...I dont disagree at all. I've always used 92, not like a big difference from 91, but I always err'd on the side of caution. Other than burning up a few sets of plugs when I forgot to update the tuning (was running NA tune on the edge 35* 13.3:1afr kind of stuff sometimes) I have never had any mechanical issues. So, I always played it safer than sorry, and recommend it those who dont get into tuning, or are inexperienced.
