Default NX Max 2: bare mininum to turn on

I am trying to troubleshoot a problem. My laptop and my desktop won't connect to the unit. I am almost thinking that its not powering up, which wires are needed to turn on the unit? Black ground and white ignition?

Yes, that's correct. I had that problem last year too, that they won't connect. Same problem with the FJO Racing wideband, too. To solve it, I had to restart the (borrowed) laptop with the units already hooked up to the serial ports and power running to them (switched +12V). The laptop was a piece of **** and died, which motivated me to buy my own. Since then, I've never run into that problem again... Now, I'm not trying to say your computers are "pieces of ****," but try someone else's laptop?

edit: how old are your computers? If they're relatively new, then I'm gonna have to think about this one.

Both are relatively new computers. My desktop is definitely not the problem. My laptop is about a year old. I have no issues running HP Tuners, LS1edit or any other programs on them. Not sure here.

Ok I went and borrowed that POS laptop that I first used, and I can't replicate the problem I had last year. All I can think of is a firmware/software mismatch. But, in the past that's only given me CRC checksum errors, not connection errors.

My problem was a firmware mismatch
