Default First time spraying, have a problem now

sprayed a 100 shot tonight for the first time and the cars temp gauge started to read about 250 after the run after the run as the track was closed as I kept driving it would go down to 210 for a few seconds and then back up to 250 or so and when it got up near the red hash marks the check gauges light came on. Car drove home okay bout 7 miles and when it was back in the garage it did not seem all that hot when I opened the hood. Oil looked okay, Tranny fluid looked okay and the radiator fluid was full as well. Started the car back up after 15 minutes or so and the temp started rising up again. Normally it stays right at 195-200 no matter what the conditions. Another wierd thing was that when I first turned the car off after getting home the fans kept running with the key out of the car. After 5 minutes of this I put the key back in and turned the ignition on and then off and the fans went off.

Anyone have any ideas about what may have happened? Car ran fine driving home and ran an 11.50 on that one run.

That is really really strange. I have never heard of that happening, feeling "cool" but showing it scortching hot. Double check you don't have a problem with the connector and/or the wires going to it. Just hope it's a false alarm!

Have you never even tried a test run, like when you first got it installed? My thinking is that maybe its something to do with the way you wired it, possibly interfering with the temp sensor. Either that or maybe a head or head gasket problem.

I would just keep an eye on your oil and coolant level. Stick a temp probe on their and verify if the gauge is correct.

i doubt he blew a head gasket especially if he said the coolant was fine....but that would suck. Did you hit rev limiter at all?
But id check the gaskets just to make sure..
was there any smoke coming out the exhaust(more then normal)?
And check around the heads and make sure its not leaking.

This is a good Idea, however I would recommend purchasing a temerature gun. That way when you see the gauge reading hot like it is, you can check the temp of the engine without messing with the fluids and if the readings are different you know the gauge is reading incorrectly. And if they are close to being the same degrees.............well then you have some bigger issues!

Well the coolant was really low which was weird as I had checked it when I bought the car. I added about 2 quarts and the car has been running right where it normally has. Drove it for two days and just checked it tonight and it was down about a 1/4 quart or so, not too much. Can fluid be escaping from anywhere? Oil looks perfect. If that much fluid had went in there it would be milky I would think.

If a head gasket is gone does the fluid go into the oil?
Or does it just leak down from the head and down the side of the block?
Could it be the radiator cap allowing it to drain into the overflow?

Not really sure what to think now.

Low coolant will make the temp rise n fall like you describe. Check pass. floor for leaking Heater core, then of course all the outside areas, radiator, hoses, water pump etc.

Forgot about the heater core. Will check that. Thanks.

I had a bad radiator cap on my car, when it was only 2yrs old or less. Replaced it and afterwards no more issues. GL

Check radiator cap, my girlfriends mom had the same problem on her Mercury sable lol...it turned out it wasnt sealing right and cooling kept coming out, causing it to overheat on and off
