Default Indexing spark plugs?

I thought I read once that it's a good idea to index your plugs. Basically you want the spark aiming right at the intake valve....correct? What washers or shims do you use to acomplish this?

I wouldn't think so. You just mark the exterior of the plug so you know where the electrode is aimed. I don't think it would hurt. If it's WAaaaY off, you could prolly use a THIN washer to effect the indexing. I thought the plug was indexed to aim at the center of the head/CC?
