Hey guys,
I just picked up a used NOS kit and want to open up the solenoid and take a look at it for safetys sake.

Ive looked at the NOS rebuild kit and it is just basically a rubber O-ring, shaft and nut with two nipples on it (removal tool). At near $50, it seems a little steep for whats involved.

Anyway, is there a safe way to open it up without this 'tool' just to inspect and clean it? And I guess is that O-ring a standard available size?

 

You can double nut the top of the stem and take it apart that way. Just don't use pliers on the stem. It is hollow so any crush will ruine it.

 

Thanks. And for the O-ring, is that a specialty item, or can i match it up with a standard available size?
