Polishing purple power ring

I have a TNT F2 kit with the purple 78mm power ring. It is purple and i dont want that oogly thing. Can I ploish it without affecting the function and performance. Or can I exchange it with anyone for the silver ring?

polishing would work fine. be sure to clean the compound out of the holes really well.
I polish all AN fittings before I weld them.
