Hey guys I just bought 97 TA and the motor was just rebuilt. The bottom end was built back stock except the crank was turned 10/10, and the top end consist of AFR 53cc heads, ZZ 409 cam, and etc. I know like one of the stickys says motors was not designed for nitrous so it is never safe to run it, but I was wondering if my motor is at more of a risk than a stock motor, the same, or less at risk. Sorry for my ignorance I just don't know these things.
Is there any one nitrous system that is notorious for being safe?
Thanks for any info

chase, read the sticky "Nitrous Basics" and you'll get an idea about what to do to make it safe.
As with any power adder, there's always a risk.. some just much less than others. More power = more risk. Start small.

yeah its no higher risk then a stock engine. unless you got some super cheap pistons or rings in there. the only question Id be wondering, is at what HP point will the rest of the package be too much for the stock crank/rods/bearings. since you got some nice heads on there, and a cam, Im goin to assume you got full exh. and maybe some other mods to make power? power/torque = certain amount of pressure on the rotating assembly, so when you up your engines power before the nitrous, its possibly already possibly running near its threshhold of staying together. so lets just assume your mking 425HP NA. now you go and throw on a 150 shot, now your stock crank/rods/pistons/stock replacment bearings have to deal with 575HP. would prolly be fine for a while. but how long is anyones guess. thats also assuming that the nitrous sytem is setup and working perfectly.
nitrous in my eyes is safer than any turbo or supercharger. any power adder can be reliable as long as it is set up propperly. as long as you run no more than 150 you should be fine. the thing too is that your not going to be running that nitrous all the time like a s/c or turbo. i think that the only thing you really should be worried about is your 10bolt(assuming you have a 10 bolt). so i think you should be fine as long as you dont bullshit the setup and make sure you run all the safety products
