Default Race Gas and Nitrous?

The person who installed my nitrous kit said that in order to spray Ill have to run race gas... Now alot of people that I do run regular gas... what is the deal with this? Its a NX wet kit, 100 shot, other than that my car is pretty much stock.

Untrue, race gas is not needed at that level. I'll be running an octane booster in my car, just for the extra piece of mind, but even that isn't a necessity.

I like to stay on the safe side. I always have 94 in mine if I spray. Now that I have the standalone tank I always have 110 or c16 in that. I like to be safe but you shouldn't need race fuel.
do you have a window switch, fpss and such?

BTW check out Motownmuscle.com-We are local to you

You dont need race gas for a 100 shot.

I'm doing a 150 shot and retarding the timing by 4-5 degrees with a timing tuner. Everyone I know who does their 100 shot does so on 93 octane pump gas.

you don't have to run race gas, but it is not going to hurt you.

I'm sure he meant it as a safety net....alot of people these days run stand alone fuel systems for their nitrous systems...they run race gas in the fuel cell for nitrous activation only....I ran 93 with octane booster with my old set up with a 150 shot, then switched to race gas when I upped the pills to 250...

Only thing with off-the-shelf octane booster is it take 4-5 bottles to up your octane by 1 level. Whereas, a gallon of 110 race gas ups it considerably. If you run with race gas, with a half tank of 93 octane, 1 gallon of race gas ups it by 2.2 points. The race gas is much cheaper than buying 10 bottles of the off-the-shelf octane booster. With a 150 wet shot, 95+ octane is all you'll need for an added safety net .... considering you're retarding the timing at least 1.5 degrees, as well. I don't have any experience with nitrous, but, I do know this seems to be the general consensus here with most of the experienced folks in here (the part about the timing retard).

do you have a tune on the car, a lot of those increase the timing and depending on how much it may be unsafe for nitrous on pump gas.

If the car was tuned for n/a it MUST be retuned for nitrous use, because I guarintee the timing was bumped up for n/a performance.

I'm an advocate of at least putting a few gallons of unleaded race fuel in with running nitrous, the cost isn't that big and it's only going to help the safety net.

Turbo Blue sells a 105 unleaded fuel that is a decent fuel for what you're planning on doing, I can get it locally at a gas station in CT for 6.50 a gallon, if you can find it the price should be in that range, not a huge cost considering 93 is still over 3.10 a gallon, at least here in CT anyway

yes you should, IMO, if you want to run anything more then a 150 you shoudl be using a DP, and anythign more then a 125 should have race gas run with it, at least a 105 unleaded type fuel, 110 leaded works well. Anything over 200 you should be running a race fuel like the 116 or 118 torco stuff made for nitrous.

Granted that is probably overkill, but why take a chance

how much timing would is a good idea to pull on a 150 shot with 94 pump gas. Right now i am pulling 8 degrees of timing, im thinking I'm being way to safe?

i would think around 4* should be great, that is how much timing i pulled on 93 octane with a 150 shot.

The rule is usually 2* for every 50 rwhp of nitrous.
