i have a 01 m6 head and camed car.i see guys at the strip with a4's 26in tires spraying 250shot no2 on 4.10 gears.can i spray 4.10's 100 to 150shot 26 in tires on my m6? i just got 26in et drags and i want to move out the 3.73's for the 4.10's and don't want a 28in tire. what do you guys think??? thanks, mike c.

 

4.10's will make you shift into 5th before crossing the 1/4. Thats why the guy you saw at the track was running on a 28" tire.

Gear selection chart

Click on this link, select the 98 F-Body M6 from the drop down list and play with the gear sizes and tire sizes. Find the MPH you plan on trapping at, and look down the list. 4th gear on stock tires, and with 4.10s, ends around 112 mph .... which means if you trapped above 112mph, you would have to shift into 5th before the end of the quarter (lowering your time).

an A4 can spray 250 on a 26" tire but if they could actually finish the 1/4 without going into overdrive then the car was either spinning the motor very high or the car was extremely slow.

 

Sorry I read that wrong. He is correct though. An A4 on stock tires with 4.10s will also end 3rd gear around 112 mph, which means they would have to shift into OD in order to complete the Quarter. Either they were trapping under 112 mph, or they were going into 4th gear. If your so concerned, go with 3.73 gears, you will end 4th gear around 125 mph or so on stock tires.
