I've been doing it for years, along with damn near everyone else that uses nitrous. You don't have to hold it, just tap it and see if the kit is working. You can purge all day long, but you still won't know if the kit works till you make a pass, unless you purge it through the engine. Outlaw 10.5, Nitrous Pro mods, etc, etc, etc,......they all do it for the simple fact of making sure everything is in order before they go out there and lose a race because they forgot to arm it, or turn a fuel pump on, or whatever the case may be.

The problem is that expecialy with a wet system on a efi Intake that the vacumme is not there to pull the mixture in when you just burp the throttle. If you carry it on through a burn out you are fine.

My buddy does that with his 10.5 Firebird and all the other nitrous cars that I've seen at the races do it too. I'm not expert though so whether it's the right thing to do I have no clue.

Im not saying people dont do it. I have done it myself. However I have seen some EFI intakes have a nasty backfire from doing so. With this site being 95 percent average EFI street cars the best advice is add a purge.

It would be safer than on a wet kit I guess. It may create a sudden lean spike due to the computer just seeing a blip in flow. Im not real sure on this one.
