Default Shortblock ? for 300 shot

The motor will be an LS1 out of an 01 Corvette. I was wondering what you would recommend for the short block. Do I need a forged crank or can I just do rods and pistons? Could I even get away with just rod bolts and a good piston? I wiil be running it with a progressive controller set at 100 on launch and building from there. Any help would be appreciated.

I noticed a 3rd gen in your avatar. Without assuming its a TPI, what type motor are you running? As far as your question on rods, pistons or just pistons, the rods take the most abuse in the rotating assembly. With a shot that size, I recommend you spend as much as you can in the bottom end. It will give you peace of mind later.

Sorry, I wasn't very clear about my combination. I am putting together an 01 LS1 out of a Corvette in the car. My understanding is that the cranks are pretty stout. There seem to be different opinions on the rod bolts but, I would more than gladly replace them if need be. I know that the pistons will need to be replaced at this level so that I WILL do. Thanks for the reply. The original post has been updated.

The cranks in the LS1's are pretty stout. You could do rods and pistons only as long as the stock crank checks out OK. I hear the bigger problem with LS1's is the heads lifting on large shots. Since I am not an expert on LS1's, hopefully someone who has a large shot LS1 will chime in.
